About Character Publishing

Strategic Publishing for Parents

Character Publishing sparked into being when a mother of four avid readers decided to take a more active role in the molding of her children’s characters through strategic book selection. Since most publishing houses and bookstores categorize children’s books by genres or age groups, it was particularly difficult and time consuming to choose books for her children which taught particular values, skills, and ideas.

Realizing that very few parents have time to sift through the descriptions of each children’s book before purchase, much less to pre-read each book to decipher its content, this mother of four decided to create her own publishing world. At Character Publishing, the books are categorized by the qualities that they enhance in your child, taking the mystery (and riskiness) out of shopping for children’s books.

Enriching a child’s character for me is the most important, beautiful, and magical part of being a parent. Introducing a child to certain values, ideas, and skills at strategic moments of her development, and then watching to see which direction she runs with it, is such an amazing experience.

I was born in Mississippi into a family with a wholesome, yet eccentric flair. The second daughter of four children, I grew up surrounded by constant noise, color, and excitement, with siblings who considered thinking outside the box the norm. Following in my father’s footsteps, I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-Med Biology from Millsaps College, hoping to become a doctor. But, my creative instincts took over with the birth of my first child, and I left the science field for the more colorful world of children’s books.

Although I began my career as a writer, it didn’t take me long to realize that I am much more pleasant to be around when I am personally in control of the books I create. So, many years (and three more children) later, I launched my own publishing company, helping to make me a much “nicer Mommy.”
